About Semantics
Semantic HTML is all about…well..the good stuff. And what the good stuff? Semantically correct (X)HTML markup as the foundation for rich copy, you know, the content. But more importantly for this site, we’ll be dealing with and talking about the use of semantic HTML as it relates to marketable web design. After all, we put so much time and effort into our coding, so why not reap from our hard labor?

And that’s why this site came into existence. For the past 4 years now, I’ve been making sure my hand-coded web designs validated and passed WAI AAA conformity. But as I’ve begun to see the real benefit, and the benefit to others as well, of monetizing W3C valid sites, I’ve come to see the “real world” place for validity. For example, on some of my web sites, they fail validation on a few sub-pages. Before, I would tear them apart and make sure they did validate, even if it meant I could not use certain technologies that I wanted to use on those pages.
Well, clients don’t care about validations. I do. So, the middle ground is a place where I’m at now. And I’m comfortable there. It’s a place where semantics are used, and “best practices” are…practiced…for accessibility. But if a page fails a W3C checkpoint, which does not effect accessibility or usability, I can live with that failure. I will not compromise on a failure which does effect accessibility or usability, as that is my web calling, Web Standards.
